Meet Katey: mom, daughter, midwestern entrepreneur, Thinkie user
Thinkie met Katey via social media and we hit it off immediately. She posts regularly on TikTok under the handle @Neuronuance about how she handles ADHD while juggling her domestic and professional responsibilities.
As an ambitious and assertive marketer who’s found ways to harness ADHD into a superpower, Katey made it clear right away that Thinkie would be another asset in her already formidable tool chest. A former corporate marketer who found her way to business-owner, Katey bills herself as "from Corporate Marketing to Late-in-Life ADHD Diagnoses to Burnout to a Solopreneur & Brain Coach-in-training."
Once she got her hands on Thinkie, Katey was hooked. Here’s her using the Brain Meter function while playing with her dog.
Katey's active mind always has questions, but not all of hers are addressed in our FAQ. Here's some of what she's asked about Thinkie:
Q: Why does Thinkie instruct users to focus on their breathing before and after using the sensor?
A: The Thinkie sensor measures the change in blood flow to the brain’s prefrontal cortex, which is strongly correlated to brain activity handling executive function. Hence, the lower the activity initially, the easier it is to detect and report changes based on stimulation. At the end, we have you cool down in preparation for any upcoming activity.
Q: What do the 2 lights on the sensor mean?
A: One is a battery indicator and the other tells you the sensor is powered on.
Q: Is there a guide for what cooler & warmer colors mean? For example, is there ever a time when you might want “cool color” brain activity (maybe when being chased by a bear?!)
A: Have a look at this blog post for starters, but you’re right, we could stand to provide additional detail. Lower activity in certain brain areas (usually measured in the center of the forehead) is often correlated to internal focus (state of wakefulness or reverie), a measure of DMN (default mode network), which is an active brain state but disengaged from the world around you. This occurs during mindfulness training, which we’re working to add in 2025. DMN is a fascinating brain state that we're considering working into our product in the coming year.
Q: Brain Meter is brilliant! Can you measure brain activity doing WHATEVER I want vs. just the games?
A: Glad to hear it! So-called "off-screen” activity measurement is one of the features that really sets Thinkie apart from any other device on the market. You could even use Brain Meter while accomplaying your singing with piano. 😊
What can we say, Katey is a convert! She's using Thinkie’s brain training games to gain actionable insights into her brain activity and use its real-time feedback to stay sharp and ahead of the curve. 💼🧠
